An event triggers a thought which causes you to feel a certain way and as a result your behavior is either pleasant or not so pleasant. If you find yourself or someone you love displaying unpleasant behaviors like anger, anxiety or depression on a consistent basis, there is help available. One of the tools we use is cognitive therapy.
Cognitive Therapy is a collaborative process. We will discuss expectations during the client’s initial counseling session. In order to meet those expectations, the client will want change and must realize that change takes practice, work and effort. We will work together toward a common goal and ultimately the client will have a sense of control over their emotional situation.
We use the following road map as a guide to help our clients achieve optimal emotional health:
- Identify problem thoughts and feelings
- Find dysfunctional automatic thoughts
- Help client dispute automatic thoughts
- Find underlying core beliefs
- Help client dispute core beliefs
- Help client maintain gains
